In order to investigate the death of IIT Kharagpur student Faizan Ahmed, the Calcutta High Court has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT).

According to sources, the second autopsy of Faizan Ahmed’s body indicated that homicidal injuries were sustained before death.
Those suspected of being involved in the case may also have been subjected to a narco test by the SIT.
Based on the new evidence revealed in the second post mortem report, the newly appointed investigation team may appoint officers for the purpose of investigating.
The Calcutta High Court ordered the exhumation of Faizan’s body in Assam about three weeks ago, after a court-appointed expert pointed out several loopholes in the first autopsy.
A team of West Bengal police took the body to Kolkata, where a court-appointed expert conducted a second autopsy.
As part of its order for exhumation of the body, the high court said a second post-mortem is “vital and necessary.”.
On October 14 last year, Faizan Ahmed was found dead in a hostel room on campus. College authorities had claimed it was a suicide, but the family claimed he had been killed.
According to his family, he was pushed over the edge by ragging and that IIT-Kharagpur’s management ignored his complaints. They said it was a clear case of murder.
In a previous case, the high court had pulled up the director of IIT-Kharagpur, located in the Paschim Medinipur district of West Bengal.
A court had reprimanded him on December 1 for not acting on a ragging complaint, which led to the student’s death.
