An online argument on X between a journalist and a former Pakistan cricketer sparked a trending topic and divided the internet.

BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia intervened to “stand with a fellow Indian” during a heated discussion on the behavior of Indian cricket fans between an Indian journalist and a former Pakistani player on the social media site X.

Arfa Khanum Sherwani, a journalist, discussed the “deplorable behavior” of Indian cricket supporters during World Cup games on Sunday.

“Many cricket fans’ deplorable behavior during World Cup games makes me feel humiliated and embarrassed as an Indian. The petty, insecure, and majoritarian attitude toward sports, which was intended to unite people, is a metaphor for the India that Modi and the RSS have produced over the past ten years, Ms. Sherwani wrote.

Danish Kaneria, a former cricketer for Pakistan, responded to the article by writing, “Come to my nation Pakistan if you are feeling ashamed to be an Indian. People like you are not needed in India. I have no doubt that many Indians will be delighted to fund this journey.

The BJP’s Gaurav Bhatia stepped in as the debate gained attention and polarized the internet, supporting the journalist “over the common faith we both have” and admonishing the batsman to “never ever dare to trouble a fellow Indian.”
