With the Northeast under its belt, the BJP is out to win Kerala, with a massive public outreach program that includes Muslims and Christians. In a state where the Left and Congress have traditionally held sway, these two make up 46 percent of the population.
In Kerala, the BJP stepped up its outreach ahead of the 2019 election but hasn’t made any progress.
In spite of its high-pitched agitation on Sabarimala, the party flopped in the state. 15 of the state’s 20 Lok Sabha seats went to the Congress. Another four seats went to its allies, the Indian Union Muslim League with two and Kerala Congress (Mani group) with one.
People saw it as a rejection of the party’s religious stance.
Since then, BJP growth in the state has been stymied by communal clashes between right-wingers and lefties.

Sources say thousands of BJP workers visited Christians’ homes with gifts last year.
In April, right-wing workers will also visit Muslim homes on Eid.
Christians are invited to right-wing activists’ homes for Vishu on April 15.
Although the common people have embraced the initiative, the ruling Left and the opposition Congress are watching it closely.
During the party’s national executive meeting in Hyderabad, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked party cadre to organize a “sneha samvaad” (message of affection) for minorities in Kerala.
A few days after winning the three northeastern states, PM Modi announced that the party will form a coalition government in Kerala, where assembly elections are due in 2026.
In the northeast, he said, the party has received much support from the Christian community.
While the Left and Congress are bitter rivals in Kerala, they fought the Tripura elections together.
According to sources, the BJP is also planning a “Thank Modi” program where beneficiaries of central projects in the state will testify. In Malayalam, around 12,000 people have sent in “Thanks Modi” videos.
