Taking to Twitter, Ayushmann Khurrana wrote, “This story is for my future generations. I watched the final two overs inside the Mumbai-Chandigarh flight just before taking off with the passengers glued to their cell phones. I’m sure the cricket fanatic pilot delayed it deliberately by 5 mins, and nobody was complaining. Wish I could record it on my phone. But let me confess, I’m socially awkward doing these things. Also, I wanted to live this experience. Thank you team India and Virat for bringing in Diwali a day early. #INDvsPAK.”
Varun Dhawan shared a funny reel video with the caption, “INDIA INDIA INDIA. Unbelievable India wins happy Diwali. Well played Pakistan. One of the best matches. King @virat.kohli.”
Vicky Kaushal shared a picture of Virat with the caption, “What a freaking legend! The composure, the grit, the balanced aggression to make India win! A breath taking knock brother. Phatte Chakte!!!
In their Group 2, Super 12 match against Pakistan at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), India defeated Pakistan by four wickets despite an explosive half-century by Virat Kohli and a century stand with Hardik Pandya.
Pakistan scored 159/8 in their 20 overs after being put to bat by India. Shan Masood (52) and Iftikhar Ahmed (51) both scored half-centuries, but Pakistan continued to lose wickets consistently. A 76-run stand between Masood and Ahmed proved crucial.
Arshdeep (3/32) and Hardik Pandya (3/31) did well with the ball for India. Shami and Bhuvneshwar also got wickets.
As India chased 160, it was reduced to 31/4 in seven overs. From then on, Virat and Hardik began to rebuild, putting up a 113-run stand. Despite being dismissed for 40, Virat scored 82 off 53 balls with six fours and four sixes to win by four wickets.
For his knock, Virat won the ‘Man of the Match’ award.
