There has been a bizarre case from Gujarat’s Mehasana where a woman got her husband arrested seven times for domestic violence in less than ten years. According to Times of India, after each arrest, she would act as guarantor and arrange for the man’s release. Premchand Mali and his wife Sonu live in Kadi town in Mehsana district, according to the outlet.

Their relationship began to suffer in 2014 after they got married in 2001. Sonu filed the first case against her husband in 2015, accusing him of physical abuse. As a result, he was ordered to pay her ₹2,000 in alimony each month.

Premchand struggled to pay his alimony, resulting in his arrest. Despite spending five months in prison, Sonu stepped in and arranged for Premchand’s release, according to the outlet. Despite living separately, the husband and wife were entangled in a web of fights, separations, and reconciliations. 

Eventually, they got together, but the fights kept getting worse. From 2016 to 2018, Premchand was arrested every year on complaints from Sonu, who accused him of causing harm, according to the TOI report. Every time, she was able to secure his release.

In 2019 and 2020, Premchand missed alimony payments and was jailed, but Sonu again saved him.

Premchand was arrested again earlier this year when he was unable to pay alimony. On July 4, Sonu secured his release once again, and they returned to Kadi.

Upon discovering that his wallet and cellphone were missing, Premchand confronted Sonu. Their whereabouts were denied by her, which led to an argument. Eventually, both assaulted each other in a physical fight.

As a result, Premchand left the home and went to live with his mother in Patan. Sonu and their son were also accused of harming him in a police complaint.
