An SUV and a bus collided early Saturday morning in Gujarat’s Navsari district, killing nine and injuring 28. A bus full of people returning from the Pramukh Swami Maharaj Shatabdi Mahotsav from Surat rammed into a Toyota Fortuner on the Navsari national highway number 48 after the driver had a heart attack. A hospital treated him, but he died.
Eight of the nine people in the car died, and 28 people in the bus were injured. There were 11 taken to a private hospital. From Surat to Valsad, the luxury bus was going.
Navsari Superintendent of Police (SP) Rushikesh Upadhyay said the SUV was coming from the opposite direction when the accident happened.
The SUV passengers were from Ankleshwar in Gujarat, and they were heading back home from Valsad, Mr Upadhyay said, adding that the bus passengers were from Valsad.
Amit Shah condoled the deaths on Twitter.
Navsari road accident is heartbreaking. I wish those who lost their families the strength to bear the pain of this tragedy. The local administration is giving immediate treatment to the injured, praying for their speedy recovery,” he tweeted in Gujarati.
Following the crash, traffic was disrupted on the highway, but police removed the bus with a crane and traffic resumed.
On December 14, Narendra Modi spoke at the inaugural function of the Pramukh Swami Maharaj Shatabdi Mahotsav in Ahmedabad.
This event started on December 15 and ends on January 15, 2023.
