Gujarat Bridge Tragedy: Mohan Kundariya, a BJP Lok Sabha member from Rajkot, said 12 of his relatives were killed in the suspension bridge collapse in Morbi, Gujarat.
According to the BJP MP, they were visiting the picnic spot when the tragedy occurred.
A suspension bridge on the Machchhu River collapsed last evening, killing more than 130 people.
Five children, four women, and three men, all close relatives of his elder brother, were among the 12 victims of Mr Kundariya’s family. Those responsible for the tragedy will be held accountable, he said.
The accident claimed the lives of four daughters of my elder brother’s brother-in-law, three of their husbands, and five of their children, Kundariya said.
According to him, they hailed from different villages in Tankara taluka and settled in Morbi.
It was Sunday, and they had gone to the picnic spot where the tragedy occurred. I arrived there half an hour after the incident took place, and I have been helping in the rescue efforts since yesterday.” he said.
He said: “So many people have been killed. We will take strict action against those responsible.”
After the bridge collapse, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel was camping in Morbi, Kundariya said.
“We will ensure that nobody responsible for the loss of so many lives is spared,” he added.
