In yet another instance of ragging in the country, a college fresher was forced to kiss a minor girl in Odisha College. Five students, including two minors, were arrested after a video of the incident went viral for multiple charges including sexual harassment.

12 students involved in the incident have been expelled from the college in Odisha College, Ganjam district. A fresher was physically abused at a Hyderabad college earlier this month, prompting social media outrage.
During a game at the ground, a first-year student who joined the government college last month was forcibly kissed by a boy after being instigated by his seniors. A senior student holds her hand as she stands up to leave.
While arguing with the boy, the accused slaps him with a stick he holds in his hand.
The incident unfolded in front of other girls, who were seen giggling rather than protesting the sexual harassment.
According to the college principal, the disciplinary committee and anti-ragging cell have expelled the students involved in the incident.
According to her, the accused second-year students will not be allowed to write their annual papers. The incident will be reported to the council of higher secondary education, she said.
Five detained students were charged with ragging and the strict Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. A juvenile justice board will hear the case of the detained minors.
He is Abhishek Nahak, 24, a final-year student. He was nominated by the ruling Biju Janata Dal’s student wing, of which he is a member, to the college’s campus committee while on bail in a sexual harassment case.
In this case, it is not just ragging, but also sexual harassment of the girl, said Superintendent of Police, Berhampur, Saraban Vivek M. The Odisha police have reiterated the state’s ragging helpline.
A month after IIT-Kharagpur student was found dead in his hostel room, the Odisha incident follows the Hyderabad incident. A court had observed that the IIT incident could have been a ragging case, despite the police calling it a suicide.
