Prime Minister Modi arrived at the G7 summit, where he was received by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. The Group of Seven (G7) will commit to a new package of coordinated actions to step up pressure on Russia over its war in the prosperous democracy Ukraine, and will back plans for a price cap on Russian oil, a senior US official said on Monday has been finalized.

On Sunday, PM Modi had a fruitful meeting with Argentine President Alberto Fernandez on the sidelines of the G7 summit and reviewed the full range of bilateral ties. This was the first bilateral meeting between the two leaders.

During the meeting, the two leaders discussed various issues such as trade and investment, defense cooperation, agriculture, climate action and food security.

PM MODI IN G7 SUMMIT

PM Modi is on a two-day visit to Germany to attend the G7 summit on June 26 and 27.

“I will exchange views with G7 countries, G7 partner countries and visiting international organizations on topical issues such as environment, energy, climate, food security, health, terrorism, gender equality and democracy. I look forward to meeting the leaders some of the participating G-7 and guest countries on the sidelines of the summit,” the Prime Minister had said in an official statement.

According to a release issued by the MEA, PM Modi will also hold bilateral meetings with leaders of some G7 countries on the sidelines of the summit.

The invitation to the G7 summit is in keeping with the tradition of close partnership between India and Germany.

After attending the summit, the prime minister will be travelling to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on June 28.

What is G7 Summit?

The G7 summit is an annual meeting of the seven countries that make up the Group of Seven (G7). Discussions generally focus on global security, economic and climate concerns.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and United States President Joe Biden attend this year’s summit are taking.

India invited as observer in the G7 summit.
