Forest department has filed a case against a man named Arif Khan Gurjar who rescued a Sarus crane and cared for it for a year.

On March 21, Forest department officials took away the crane, which lived with Arif Khan Gurjar in the Mandkha village of Amethi district, and accompanied him to his fields.
An official said the bird was shifted to the Samaspur sanctuary in Rae Bareli to live in its natural environment.

The department issued a notice to Arif Khan Gurjar asking him to appear at the Gauriganj divisional forest officer’s office on April 4.

He has been booked under relevant sections of the Wildlife Protection Act, according to Assistant Divisional Forest Officer (Gauriganj) Ranvir Singh.
