Using solid propellants, the hypersonic missile has a range of 1,400 kilometers and is highly maneuverable. Al-Jazeera reported that the name of the project was selected by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and translates to “the opener”.

As hypersonic missiles fly low in the atmosphere, they reach their targets more quickly and are less likely to be intercepted by modern air defenses than conventional ballistic missiles.

Amir Ali Hajizadeh, head of Iran’s aerospace force, announced last November that they are developing a hypersonic missile.

In terms of missile technology, Fattah represents a “generational leap” for Iran. The fact that Fatah moves in different directions and at different altitudes makes it impossible to be destroyed by any other missile, Mr Hajizadeh said last year.

A number of top Iranian officials attended the unveiling ceremony, including President Ebrahim Raisi and IRGC Commander-in-Chief Hossein Salami.
