Eoin Morgan’s 5 Records Let’s know-
England’s World Cup winning captain Eoin Morgan is contemplating retiring from international cricket. Morgan has been struggling for form as he has worked only two half-centuries in his last 28 T20Is and 50 overs combined.
In his most recent international outing, in an ODI match against lower-order Netherlands, Morgan was dismissed for a duck with a back injury before being ruled out of the next match.
Here’s a look at the five records held by the Ireland-born England captain.
1. Most Runs in Under-19 World Cup
Before Eoin Morgan became a big name in international cricket and switched from representing Ireland to England, he dominated the Under-19 Cricket World Cup. Morgan represented Ireland in the 2004 and 2006 editions of the Under-19 World Cup. In these two editions, he played 13 matches and scored 606 runs. With this, Morgan became the highest run-scorer in the history of the Under-19 World Cup.
2. First batsman to score ODI century for two different countries
Eoin Morgan scored his maiden ODI century in Irish colors against Canada. The next time he recorded a century in ODIs it was for England against Bangladesh. With this, Morgan became the first batsman in the history of ODIs to score centuries for two different countries.
3. Most sixes in an ODI innings
During the 2019 World Cup match against Afghanistan, Eoin Morgan smashed the Afghan bowlers for 17 sixes at 148 runs in just 71 balls. With this, Morgan became the batsman to hit the most sixes in an ODI innings.
4. Most matches as T20I captain
Eoin Morgan will retire as the player to lead the most number of T20 Internationals. Morgan has led England in 72 T20Is and shared the record with former Indian skipper MS Dhoni. But Morgan’s success rate is better than Dhoni. Morgan has won 42 of the 72 matches he has led England in and lost 27 games. Two matches ended in a tie while one match resulted in no result. Meanwhile, Dhoni won 41 matches, and lost 28 in which one match was tied and two matches were of no result.
5. For leading a team to the three highest totals in the history of ODI cricket
Morgan revolutionized the way England approached ODI cricket and this is reflected in the unparalleled record that he holds. England has made the top three highest totals in the history of ODI cricket. England recently posted 498/4 against the Netherlands to score the highest ODI total. Earlier, England had scored 481/6 against Australia and 444/3 against Pakistan. Morgan was the captain of England on all three occasions. This is a record which is not held by any other captain in the history of 50-over cricket.
