England ODI Highest Score: England broke the world record 4–498 after Jos Buttler’s breathtaking belligerence as the Netherlands were blown away in the first one-day international.
Not only was the previous ODI best of 6-481 which England had eclipsed against Australia four years ago.
But the overall score even bettered Surrey’s registered 4–496 against Gloucestershire, which stood as a benchmark list since April 2007.
Butler on Friday missed his own record for the fastest century by an England batsman with just one ball, reaching three figures in 47 balls, before remaining unbeaten on 162 off 70. England ODI Highest Score
It was the perfect start to Australian Matthew Mott’s reign as New England white-ball coach as he registered a 232-run win at Amstelveen, just outside Amsterdam.
While Buttler hit 14 of England’s 26 sixes, he was given a perfect platform in Phil Salt’s maiden international century and David Malan’s 222-run stand in ODIs that helped England recover from an early loss to Jason Roy. Which was thrown by his cousin. Shane Snater either.
Eoin Morgan was dismissed for a golden duck but no enthusiasm was lost courtesy of Buttler and Liam Livingstone, who smashed an unbeaten 66 off 22 balls to score the fastest ODI half-century by an Englishman in 17 balls. England ODI Highest Score
It was an error-prone fielding performance from the Dutch with Salt, Butler and Livingstone all falling into the deep before reaching 50, and they fell for their heaviest defeat after being bowled out for 266 in 49.4 overs.
Gambling in the region of the Netherlands reversed spectacularly on the first day with temperatures approaching 30 °C.
Salt was given a respite for 40 when he was dropped to deep point by a snatter and opener, including as Jonny Bairstow was unavailable due to Test commitments, capitalizing on a century from 82 balls before scoring 122.
Butler, this year’s Indian Premier League MVP and top scorer, was reshuffled in the order and dropped by Musa Ahmed on a long-running 37.
Amid the attack, Malan reached three points and was joined by Butler, who was the only two Englishmen to score centuries in all three formats.
But Malan was content to defy his teammate, contributing 39 to a stand of 184 runs before dismissing Netherlands captain Peter Seelar for 125. England ODI Highest Score
The slow left-hander accounted for the number opposite Morgan, but Livingstone wasted no time, scoring 32 runs in an over from Philippe Boisven.
By this point Buttler had already become England’s third century – something he had never done in an ODI innings – after hitting Aryan Dutt for three consecutive sixes.
He took England to a new ODI record, hitting a six on the corner of the cow and as the crowd sang “Boring, boring England” when the 500-run chance was snatched away, Livingstone struck him once again. Brought to his feet with a six. Midwicket off the last ball of the innings.
When the home team batted, Moeen Ali scored 3-57 while Scott Edwards’ unbeaten 72 averted the prospect of the heaviest defeat in ODI history.
