ENG vs NZ, 1st Test: New Zealand all out at 132 in the first of this three-match series on Day 1.

England’s debutant Matthew Potts took four wickets against New Zealand on the opening day of the first Test at Lord’s on Thursday. The World Test champions were all out for 132 before England, in the first of this three-match series. Pre-match, on other hand England making a fresh start under new Test captain Ben Stokes and recently-appointed coach Brendon McCullum of New Zealand.

Potts took a superb 4 wickets for 13 runs in 9.2 overs, its reward for delivering on line and length, England pace great James Anderson also took four for 66 in 16 over.

Matthew Potts, the Durham pacer, had been preferred to Craig Overton made his England well debut in the first Test against New Zealand at Lord’s.

“Yes it was a great debut and it’s nice to get some wickets early” said Potts.

New Zealand Fight Back With 7 Wickets

England also slumped to 116-7 by stumps. It’s a reminder that there are no quick solutions to the fundamental batting weakness of England. Zak Crawley begun England’s reply with a speedy 43.

But in seemingly ideal batting conditions and good pitch beneath sunny blue skies the opener’s exit sparked a slump that saw England loses 7 wickets for just 41 runs.

Stokes himself was out for just one run, and former captain and star batsman of England Joe Root dismissed at only 11 run.

New Zealand left-arm pacer Trent Boult, who just arrived in England on Monday after playing in the Indian Premier League final, got two wickets for 15 in 10 overs and mountainous paceman Kyle Jamieson took two wickets for 20 in 7 overs.

For New Zealand Colin de Grandhomme played a fighting run of 42 not out while Tim Southee also contributed with a 26-run.
