Election Commission Sacked Abhishek Singh: An officer assigned on Gujarat election duty has been paid heavily for his posts on Instagram. IAS (Indian Administrative Service) officer Abhishek Singh was removed by the Election Commission for flaunting his postings on Instagram, sources said today.

The EC order reportedly stated that Abhishek Singh had “used Instagram for his posting/joining as General Observer and used his official position as a publicity stunt”.

Ahead of next month’s Gujarat elections, Uttar Pradesh cadre officer Abhishek Singh was appointed general observer for two assembly constituencies in Ahmedabad – Bapunagar and Asarwa.

The officer, who describes himself as Abhishek S IAS on social media, has shared two pictures on Instagram. In one, he is next to an official car with a beacon and the inscription “Observer”. The caption reads, ‘Joined as an observer for the Gujarat elections.’

Another post showed him with three more officers and an armed security guard, all smiling at the camera.

Mr Singh, who appears to be active on social media and describes himself as a “public servant, actor, social entrepreneur and dogged optimist”, shared the same pictures on Twitter.

According to sources, the Election Commission had taken a “very serious view” of the officer’s Insta post and hence, he has been “immediately relieved of his duties as general observer and from any election related duties till further orders”. has been denied.”

The officer was ordered to leave the constituency immediately and report to his parent cadre. All government facilities provided to him in Gujarat were also taken away, including the car shown at his posts.

Mr Singh has been replaced by another IAS (Indian Administrative Service) officer Krishna Bajpai.

Voting for the new government in Gujarat will be held on December 1 and 5. The result will be declared on 8 December.
