According to the chargesheet, DRDO scientist Pradeep Kurulkar chatted with Pakistani Intelligence Operative Zara Dasgupta about Indian missile systems and other classified military projects.

Last week, the Maharashtra police’s Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) filed charges against Kurulkar, who was the director of one of the DRDO’s Pune laboratories.
Currently, he is in judicial custody after he was arrested for espionage on May 3.
According to the chargesheet, Pradeep Kurulkar and ‘Zara Dasgupta’ communicated via WhatsApp as well as voice and video calls.
By sending obscene messages and videos, ‘Dasgupta’ claimed to be a software engineer from the UK. Her IP address was traced to Pakistan during the investigation, the ATS reported.
In addition to the Brahmos Launcher, drone, UCV, Agni Missile Launcher, and Military Bridging System, the Pakistani agent sought classified and sensitive information.
Kurulkar allegedly shared classified and sensitive information of DRDO with Zara when he was attracted to her, according to the chargesheet.
In his conversation with her, he discussed a variety of projects, including surface-to-air missiles (SAMs), drones, Brahmos and Agni missile launchers, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UCVs).
As per the ATS, the two were in contact between June 2022 and December 2022.
In February 2023, Pradeep Kurulkar blocked Zara’s number shortly before the DRDO initiated an internal investigation. An unknown Indian number then sent him a WhatsApp message asking ‘Why you blocked my number?’ According to the chargesheet, he also shared his personal and official schedules and locations with her despite knowing that he wasn’t supposed to share them with anyone.
