Left-handed batsman Rishabh Pant has not done well of late in the shortest format of the game and one can chalk up his poor performance to the lack of clarity in terms of his role.

T10 League Season 6

The maverick batsman’s batting position has not been stable and he has found himself moving in and out of the lineup. In the T20 World Cup, Pant played just two matches – one against Zimbabwe in the Super 12 and the other against England which was the semi-final.

Now, India’s wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik has also made a case for Pant to be allowed to open the batting in the shortest format of the game.

“One thing we know for sure, Rishabh Pant’s ability to play shots. And when the ground is up, he can go gung-ho in the powerplays so we can give him the opportunity to open. Interestingly, the stats That also reflects in his strike rate. When he opens, it is the highest. He likes to field, he likes to take on bowlers and put them under pressure,” Karthik told CricbuzzSat.

“I think it will be very interesting to see where they put Rishabh Pant with the bat. The big question for Team India is how they will use Rishabh Pant and I think we will be looking at him at the top of the order and Will be trying to give him enough balls.

To showcase his skills. He is second to none when it comes to stroke play and has astounded a lot of international bowlers of high pedigree. We need to recognize this fact Need to accept he’s going to have some setbacks, but when he’s going, he’s a great player to watch.”

Talking further about Pant, Karthik said: “I think Rishabh Pant has cemented his place in Test cricket and to a large extent in ODI cricket as well. In T20s, he is going to bring a different take to his franchise.” He bats in a different position and comes into the Indian team and they are trying to figure out where to fit him in.

“When you have Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya, where do you fit in Rishabh Pant? We need a left-handed batsman, but where do we play him? We know what Kohli would do at No.3 Let’s not even know. Talk about Suryakumar Yadav, he is the best in the business in the world. Immediately we come to Pant at No.5. Do we want him to bat there or see if we Can give him an opening chance or not.

Pant is currently part of India’s T20 squad for the series against New Zealand. The left-handed batsman is also the vice-captain of this series.
