Amit Shah, the home minister, defended the government’s bill to override a Supreme Court order.

As a result of the Supreme Court’s order, parliament has the authority to make laws pertaining to the National Capital Territory of Delhi. According to Mr Shah, the Constitution allows the center to make laws for Delhi,” in reference to the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted that the bill would “enslave” the city’s people.

I heard Amit Shah ji speak in Lok Sabha today about the bill that snatches away Delhi’s rights. There is no valid argument to support the bill… They also understand that they are doing wrong. It is a bill that enslaves the people of Delhi. It is a bill that renders them helpless and helpless. India will never allow this to happen, Mr Kejriwal tweeted in Hindi before the bill passed.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief’s tweet alluded to Mr Shah’s statement in parliament that the BJP and the Congress ruled the national capital without any confrontation, but problems emerged only in 2015 when a government came that had no intention of serving but only to fight with the centre.

In the National Capital Territory (NCT) administration, the AAP-led Delhi government has been at war with the centre over the control of Group-A officers.

An ordinance passed by the centre in May overturned the Supreme Court judgment giving Delhi control of “services” in the NCT administration. The bill overrode that ordinance.
