Haryana Violence: As a result of the ripples from Monday’s communal clash in Haryana’s Nuh reaching posh areas of Gurugram, Delhi has tightened security and deployed drones to monitor sensitive areas.

After several shops and shanties near a residential society in Gurugram were set on fire on Tuesday, the city has imposed prohibitory orders. In order to prevent arson attacks, loose petrol and diesel have also been banned.

Additionally, the police warned citizens not to believe rumours or social media reports.

Following an objectionable video that went viral, violence broke out during a religious procession in Nuh on Monday — just 50 km from Delhi. 2,500 people took refuge in a temple after being attacked with stones by a mob.

As the evening progressed, more than a hundred vehicles were torched and vandalized in Nuh and Gurugram, as mobs went on rampage.

Several parts of Delhi are being protested against the violence in Haryana by right-wing organizations Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal. There have been traffic jams in several other parts of Delhi and its neighbouring areas as a result of the protests.

The Nirman Vihar Metro Station was filmed with Bajrang Dal supporters reciting Hanuman Chalisa. The police later removed them from Vikas Marg after they attempted to block it.

Delhi authorities have also been urged by the Supreme Court to deploy heavy force and install CCTV cameras to prevent any escalation.

After clashes between Hindus and Muslims erupted around 50 km south of New Delhi on Monday and simmered a day later, at least six people, including two police officers, died. Questions have also been raised about the role of social media posts and the authorities’ inaction.

Monu Manesar, a Bajrang Dal member, has been named the head of a Special Investigation Team to investigate communal violence cases.

In a statement Monday, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said he suspects a “conspiracy” behind the clashes. Khattar claimed people conspired to attack those participating in the yatra and the police, resulting in violence.
