The Delhi High Court on Friday reserved judgment on a plea by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan challenging the Delhi Police’s order declaring it to be of “bad character”.
On June 1, the Delhi High Court issued notice to the Delhi Police on a petition by Amanatullah Khan, challenging the opening of the history sheet by the Delhi Police and declaring it to be of ‘bad character’.
Justice Sudhir Kumar Jain had issued notice to Delhi Police to file a reply on the petition. The counsel for the petitioner had urged the court to give an interim direction to the Delhi Police not to act on the verdict.
AAP MLA Amanullah Khan filed a petition through Advocate M Sufiyan Siddiqui challenging the decision taken by Delhi Police. He demanded the quashing of this decision.
The petition states that the dossier was leaked to the media in contravention of the rules and regulations in this regard, which mandate that it be kept confidential.
The petitioner said that this is a classic case of open abuse of process of law by Delhi Police.
The petition, filed by the AAP MLA from Okhla, had sought quashing of the history paper and the motion to declare him “of bad character”. He also demanded removal of his name from the register to keep a close watch on his activities.
SHO Jamia Nagar had submitted a dossier to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, South East and Assistant Commissioner of Police, New Friends Colony with a proposal to open a history paper and tag Amanullah Khan’s name as ‘bad character’.
It has been said in the petition that the approval was given mechanically.
Meanwhile, a Delhi court on September 28 granted bail to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan in a case related to alleged irregularities in appointment to the Delhi Waqf Board headed by him.
He was recently arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in the case.
