A 50-year-old Cyclist died after being hit by a BMW car on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway in Vasant Kunj area on Sunday. Police have registered a case under sections 279 (rash driving) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and arrested the driver of the car, who said the car’s tires burst causing him to lose control. However, the driver is out on bail due to bailable sections in the case against him.
Police said the driver of the car took the cyclist in another vehicle to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital, but doctors declared him brought dead.
When the police reached the spot, they saw that the tires of the BMW car were burst and the glass panes were shattered. The driver allegedly lost control of the car and hit the cyclist. Police said the old car belonged to Sunil, a 40-year-old businessman from Delhi. Police said Sunil denied being present at the time of the accident.
The police also found a sticker on the car which belonged to the Union Defense Ministry. Police is investigating from every aspect.
The deceased cyclist was identified as Suvendu Chatterjee (50), a resident of Gurugram in Haryana.
