Raja Pateria, a Madhya Pradesh Congress leader, has been arrested over his controversial remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

On Monday, a video emerged of Raja Pateria goading a group of people to “kill” PM Modi in order to “save” the Constitution.
At a gathering of party workers, Mr Pateria said, “Modi will end elections, Modi will divide based on religion, caste, and language. The lives of Dalits, tribals, and minorities are in danger. If the constitution is to be saved, then be ready to kill Modi.”
As a result of Mr Pateria’s comments, the Madhya Pradesh government ordered a police investigation.
Panna police station registered a case against Mr Pateria on Monday afternoon. Pateria was arrested in Hata town in the Damoh district of the state.
In response, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan even targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, saying: “The real face of those pretending to do a Bharat Jodo Yatra has been revealed.”
Consequently, a Congress leader is discussing killing PM Narendra Modi because Congress people cannot compete on the field. In a statement, the Chief Minister said, “This is the height of hatred. Congress’ true feelings are being revealed. The law will take its course.”
Mr Raja Pateria claimed in the same video that “murder” in his speech meant “defeat”. According to the Congress leader, defeating PM Modi in elections is necessary to protect minorities’ rights as a follower of Mahatma Gandhi’s ideology.
In response to the “reprehensible” comments made by Mr Pateria, the Congress has expressed its dismay.
In a statement quoted by PTI, Congress leader Pawan Khera said that such comments are “absolutely reprehensible! No such words should be used against the prime minister or against anyone.”
Mr. Khera said that such language should not be used against anyone, especially the prime minister.
