Chennai Student Dies By Suicide: A Tamil Nadu teacher has been arrested for allegedly having an affair with a minor girl student, police said. Police suspect that the 17-year-old student committed suicide after breaking up with the teacher.
The teacher works in a government-aided school in Ambattur, which is just 20 kilometers from Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu. Police said she had been tutoring the boy for three years since he was in class 10th. Police said that he sometimes used to visit her house along with other students.

Jotilakshmi, police inspector of Ambattur’s Akhil Mahila police station, says, “The teacher ended the relationship with her after the engagement. The minor boy, however, wanted to continue.”
The boy had committed suicide a month ago after the 12th examination. His mother suspected that there was some other reason behind his death. Police claim that they found pictures of the teacher with the boy on his phone, which eventually led to his arrest.
Vidya Reddy says, “This is a rare case as the gender-neutral principle of the POCSO Act has been implemented as envisaged. We hope that this increasing understanding of sexual offenses involving young people, irrespective of the gender of the perpetrator. Earlier this week, Tamil Nadu police arrested a 20-year-old pregnant college student for allegedly marrying her minor classmate in Salem district. The juvenile, who was a minor when he went missing in April, was staying with his classmate. The police traced him after his parents filed a petition to bring him to the court.
