Huge Ship Sinks At Turkey Port: An Egyptian cargo ship capsized in Turkey, leaving several containers at sea. A video circulated on social media shows a ship named Sea Eagle turning shore and sinking. According to Tradewinds, a website that reports on shipping news, it was docked at the Turkish port of Iskenderam and was in the process of unloading the boxes when the incident occurred. The incident happened on Saturday, the outlet said, adding that the vessel was built in 1984.

Video of the incident on Reddit shows a port lift truck unloading a container when the 3120 DWT cargo ship capsized. Hearing the sound of the whistle, the people standing near the ship immediately left from there.

Turkey’s Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure later said on Twitter that 24 containers were lost from the Togolese-flagged ship and a minor oil spill was also detected.

Fortunately, all the crew members were evacuated safely and no casualties have been reported.

The government later issued a statement in which it said the ship was suffering from stability issues and efforts to balance it did not yield results, according to another outlet, G Capt.

The cause of the accident is being investigated by port authorities in Turkey. Meanwhile, operations to unload the ship’s fuel and retrieve the container are currently underway.

The ship arrived at Iskenderam from Mersin, Turkey on 17 September. According to the crew, by then all the onboard systems were working normally.

Fortunately, all of the crew were ejected safely, and no casualties were reported. According to another outlet, the government later issued a statement in which it claimed that the ship had stability problems and attempts to balance it had failed. Turkish port officials are investigating the cause of the accident. The operation to remove the container and discharge the ship’s fuel is currently underway.
