iPhone 15 Overheating: In a statement on Saturday, Apple said recent reports of iPhones getting too hot are caused by bugs in software and apps.

As the device works overtime to set up and restore data, the device can get warm in the first few days due to a bug in iOS 17 and some third-party apps overloading the system. Last week, Bloomberg News reported on the issue.

After setting up or restoring the device, the device might feel warmer due to increased background activity, Apple explained.

Bloomberg reports that Apple is working with developers behind the apps causing the iPhone to overheat and that fixes are in the process of being released. The device has run warmer than usual due to Instagram by Meta Platforms Inc., Uber Technologies Inc.’s app, and Asphalt 9. Apple reported that Instagram had already mitigated the problem with its app on Sept. 27.

The new iPhone features a titanium frame, a first for an iPhone, and an A17 Pro chip with improved graphics. The issue may have been caused by those hardware changes, according to some researchers.

According to Apple, the new design of the iPhone 15 Pro line will result in improved heat dissipation, compared to prior stainless steel devices. As part of the upcoming software fix, the latest models’ processors will not be slowed down.

According to Apple, the issue is not a safety issue and will have no long-term impact on the iPhone’s performance. According to the company, USB-C charging, a standard included in the latest models, is not the cause of the issue. However, iPhones may temporarily feel hotter when using a large charging adapter, such as those with speeds over 20 watts.

The new iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max have been reported as feeling abnormally hot to the touch by hundreds of users on social media and to Apple support. In some cases, users have posted pictures of their iPhone thermometer readings over 100F (38C).

It wasn’t clear when the iOS 17 software update would be released or what version it would contain. App developers received the first beta version of iOS 17.1 last week. Later in October, that release is scheduled.
