Congress MP Rahul Gandhi will not be allowed to speak in the House unless he apologises for his remarks regarding Indian democracy in London, sources in the BJP said today.
In the midst of loud sloganeering from the BJP, which demands Congress MP Rahul Gandhi apologize for his remarks at Cambridge University, and opposition parties calling for an investigation into the Adani-Hindenberg row, both houses of parliament were adjourned again today. As chaos ensued inside the parliament, audio of the proceedings was muted. In a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress repeated Rahul Gandhi’s charge that opposition leaders’ microphones were muted in parliament.
Earlier, the mic used to be turned off. Today even the proceedings of the House were muted. The house is mute for PM Modi’s friend,” the grand-old party tweeted.
After the row erupted over Rahul Gandhi’s comments, Rahul Gandhi appeared in the Lok Sabha for the second time today, but the house adjourned until next week. He wants to respond to allegations against him inside the house, but the BJP insists he apologize first.
BJP National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said Mr Gandhi’s remark was “egregious and gravely offensive” and he should apologize outside before filing a complaint in Parliament.

The Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur said Rahul Gandhi is truly an unfortunate MP because he is defaming the same parliament that he is a member of, in reference to his slip-up yesterday. In addition, he demanded an unconditional apology from him.
He does not know that the House is run by procedures, and policies. I brought him the booklet of rules as well. He would understand if he went to the parliament. He rarely goes there. Telling lies has become a habit for him. He lied, and tried to prove that he is bigger than the parliament, bigger than the country. He should apologise unconditionally,” Thakur said.
Rahul Gandhi has been slammed by several BJP ministers for spreading lies and maligning India’s image abroad. While law minister Kiren Rijiju claimed that the Congress leader was speaking the language of “anti-India forces”, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has called for the formation of a special committee to investigate Mr Gandhi’s statements, which, he said, would lead to Mr Gandhi’s removal from the Lok Sabha.
Rahul Gandhi has become a permanent part of the “anti-nationalist toolkit”, according to BJP National President JP Nadda on Friday.
