The Lok Sabha ethics committee has been notified of BJP MP Nishikant Dubey’s “cash-for-question” complaint against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra.
Mahua Moitra allegedly took bribes from businessman Darshan Hiranandani to ask questions in parliament aimed at targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Adani Group, Nishikant Dubey alleged.
A BJP MP accused Ms Moitra of breaching parliamentary privilege, contempt of parliament and criminal conspiracy in a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Sunday.
Any inquiry is welcome by Ms Moitra.
There is no merit to the allegations, according to the Hiranandani Group.
A spokesperson for the Hiranandani Group said, “We have always worked with the government in the interest of the nation, and we will continue to do so.”.
As Mr Dubey noted in his letter to Mr Birla, the Hiranandani Group had lost energy and infrastructure contracts to the Adani Group.
A Trinamool MP claimed that Mr Hiranandani had given her ‘CHECK’ 75 lakh to run for office and had paid her ‘CHECK’ 2 crore as well as gifts such as a brand new iPhone.
Mr Dubey has accused Darshan Hiranandani of prodding the Trinamool MP with 50 of his 61 questions between 2019 and 2023.
His letter claimed Ms Moitra gave Mr Hiranandani access to her Lok Sabha account, where questions were posted directly by Ms Moitra or Mr Hiranandani, citing “painstaking research” done by lawyer Jai Anand Dehadrai. Some of the allegations made by the advocate have been submitted to the CBI.
The Opposition parties took their cue from Moitra, he alleges, who asked questions on oil and gas supply from Paradip, Dhamra Port, urea subsidy, steel prices affecting real estate and income tax authority.
According to his letter, the current situation is nothing more than a re-emergence of the cash for query scam that made headlines in 2005, in which 11 MPS were suspended in a “record time of 23 days”.
“Multiple breaches of privilege are pending against fake degreewala & other @BJP4India luminaries. Welcome any motion against me after Speaker deals with those.” Ms Moitra replied in response to Mr Dubey’s claim.
He also received questions on the subject of data protection from the Hiranandani Group, according to Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Union minister for Information Technology.
It was an “insult” to her intelligence that Mr Chandrasekhar’s comments were, according to Ms Moitra. In her role as a member of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on Data Protection, she asked questions that were applicable to all Indians.
