According to S Jaishankar, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is the “promoter, justifyer, and spokesperson of terrorism”.

After a meeting of foreign ministers from member nations of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Goa, Mr Jaishankar said, “Victims of terrorism do not sit together with perpetrators to discuss terrorism.”

“Bhutto Zardari came as Foreign Minister of a SCO member state; that’s multilateral diplomacy, and we don’t see anything more than that,” Mr Jaishankar said.

At the SCO meeting, the two foreign ministers did not hold a bilateral meeting.

In a clear reference to Pakistan’s financial crisis, Mr Jaishankar said Pakistan’s credibility is eroding even faster than its forex reserves on terrorism.

In an operation to find terrorists hiding in a forest near Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch, five Indian Army soldiers were killed in action. Last week, five other soldiers were killed by suspected Pakistani terrorists who ambushed an army truck.

India has demonstrated umpteen times that Pakistan supports terrorism on its soil by arming and sending terrorists to Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan is home to UN-designated global terrorist Masood Azhar, 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed, and many others.

First Pakistani Foreign Minister to visit India in nearly 12 years, Mr Zardari is the son of assassinated former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. The then Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Hina Rabbani Khar, visited India in 2011. Sartaj Aziz was the last Pakistani minister to visit in 2016.

Mr Jaishankar called for united efforts to fight terrorism at the SCO meeting. It would be bad for the SCO if it took its eyes off terrorism.

We must not allow anyone – individual or state – to hide behind non-state actors… While the world was engaged in dealing with Covid and its consequences, terrorism continued unabated. “Taking our eyes off this menace would be detrimental to our security interests,” Mr Jaishankar said.
