Comebacks After Injury in Indian Cricket: As the old saying goes, the comeback is always stronger than the setback. Even cricketers have heard of this phrase. The sport challenges players both on and off the field.
Even the best players sometimes get hurt, and they know that a serious injury can end their careers. But sometimes, the best get even better when they come back to their sport after getting hurt and do well.
India has seen a lot of their famous cricket players come back to the sport. In this article, we’ll take a look at five Indian cricketers who came back from major injuries in a way that shocked the world.
1. Sachin Tendulkar
During his 22-year career, Sachin Tendulkar had some of the best moments and some of the worst. None hurt him more than the tennis elbow he got in 2004.
At one point, Sachin could barely lift his bat because the injury was getting worse. During that time, the media cruelly called him “Endulkar,” but the legend went through hell and high water to get back into the game.
On his return in 2005, Tendulkar beat Sunil Gavaskar’s record of 34 Test tonnes by hitting a stunning century against Sri Lanka. After that, the “God of Cricket” never looked back until 2013, when he called it quits on a long and successful career.
2. Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi
Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi is thought of as one of India’s best Test captains. His fearlessness and “never say die” attitude earned him the nickname “Tiger.”
At age 20, he was in a car accident and lost his right eye. That didn’t stop him from playing the sport he loves, though, and he kept competing at the highest level while wearing a glass eye.
He was India’s captain for 40 of the 46 Tests he played in, and he scored 2793 runs. During a tour of the West Indies in 1962, Tiger became India’s youngest captain.
3. Yuvraj Singh
Well, Yuvraj Singh’s injury may not have happened on the field, but what he was able to do over the course of his career is amazing. The Punjab boy was one of India’s most underrated all-rounders, and he made his mark on the world stage.
The left-handed all-rounder helped India win the T20 World Cup in 2007 and the ICC World Cup in 2011 with his swagger and style. India won the World Cup, and afterward it was found out that Yuvraj had cancer during the tournament.
During the semi-finals against Australia, he coughed up blood but still helped his team win. After his treatment, he came back to the international team in a way that will be remembered.
4. Zaheer Khan
India has had good fast bowlers in recent years, such as Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, and Ishant Sharma, to name a few. In the 2000s, though, that wasn’t true. During that time, India’s pace attack was led by Zaheer Khan, who did an excellent job of it.
Zaheer worked his way up through the ranks before making a name for himself in 2004-05. However, injuries hurt his career and caused him to lose his spot on the team. But he kept fighting back to show that he was worth keeping on the side.
Even after India beat Australia in 2008, the pacer from Mumbai kept getting shoulder injuries. But he made it back into the team for the World Cup in 2011 and was a key part of India’s Cup-winning campaign.
5. Hardik Pandya
Hardik Pandya’s return to the international scene was one of the best comebacks we’ve seen in recent years. After getting a back injury that made it hard for him to bowl, Pandya was kicked off the Indian team. Even in the IPL, the Mumbai Indians did not keep him on the team.
But when he came back, the Gujarat all-rounder shut down his critics in the best way possible. He not only got back to bowling, but he also added a lot of speed to his game by working really hard while he was out. He also led the Gujarat Titans to their first IPL title, which was also his first.
His recent return to the Indian white-ball team showed everyone how good of a cricketer he is. Hardik should be the first name on the team sheet for India’s white-ball team when he is fully fit. After being made fun of while he was out with an injury, it’s great to see the all-rounder rise above the haters.
