Brett Lee On Umran Malik: With his ability to bowl over 150 kmph regularly, Umran Malik dominated the Indian Premier League. Umran scalped 22 wickets in 14 matches for SunRisers Hyderabad.
In the T20I series against Ireland, he received his debut India call-up. His inclusion in the team was revoked after three matches. Umran was also left out of the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup. According to former Australia pacer Brett Lee, Umran should have been included in India’s squad for the showpiece event.
“Umran Malik is bowling at 150 km per hour. If you have the best car in the world, but you leave it in the garage, then what’s the point? Umran Malik should have been selected in the Indian squad for the World Cup,” Lee said.
On Australian tracks, Umran’s searing pace would have troubled opposition batters.
It’s different when a guy is bowling at 140 kmph and another guy is bowling at 150 kmph. It’s different when you have a guy bowling at 140 kmph and another guy bowling at 150 kmph!” he added.
A back injury has also ruled out star pacer Jasprit Bumrah from the T20 World Cup.
Bumrah’s replacement has not yet been named by the BCCI.
The first match of the tournament will be between India and Pakistan on October 23 in Melbourne.
