Taking place outside Delhi for the first time ever, the 75th Army Day is a first.
The Army chief will review the parade and award gallantry awards, then the Army Service Corps (ASC) Tornadoes’ daring motorcycle display, the Paratroopers’ skydiving display, daredevil jumps, and helicopters of the Army Aviation Corps will fly past.
In 1949, General (later Field Marshal) KM Carriappa took over the command of the Indian Army from General Sir Francis Robert Roy Bucher, the last British Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army, and became the first Indian army chief. Army Day is celebrated every year on January 15.
According to the Station Commander of the Southern Command, the parade will be held at various field commands in India.
The celebrations are under the supervision of the Southern Command in Pune this year.
Army Day used to be held at Cariappa Parade Ground in Delhi Cantonment before 2023.
Also, last year, the Indian Air Force moved its annual fly-past and parade to Chandigarh for Air Force Day.
