Am An Indian Muslim Not Chinese Muslim: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah has criticized the center for alleged mistreatment of Muslims.
It is important that the country remains united, from Kashmir to Kanyakumari…I am a Muslim, but an Indian one. In an event organized by the Nationalist Congress Party, or NCP, to honor the 75th birthday of Chhagan Bhujbal, a senior leader of Sharad Pawar’s party, Mr Abdullah said, “I am not a Chinese Muslim.”
The event was attended by Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray, lyricist Javed Akhtar, and NCP leader Ajit Pawar.
The comment comes just a few days after two BJP leaders – an MP and an MLA – allegedly called for a “total boycott” of a community, apparently Muslims, at an event in Delhi, which has been termed extremely dangerous by opposition leaders and critics of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
People may be different, but together we can build this country. That is called friendship. Religions do not teach people to hate one another. This is Hindustan. As a result of the Constitution scrapping special status for Jammu and Kashmir in August 2019, Abdullah was jailed for more than a year.
There is a connection between Mr Thackeray’s attendance at Mr Bhujbal’s birthday celebration and the Shiv Sena. As an example, the NCP is an ally of the Sena group led by Mr Thackeray, whose rival group is led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
The Election Commission last week allowed Team Thackeray to use the election symbol “flaming torch” for an upcoming by-election in Maharashtra. In 1985, Mr Bhujbal won from Mumbai’s Mazgaon constituency using this symbol. Later, Bhujbal left the Sena and joined the Congress before joining the NCP.
