Multan Sultans owner Alamgir Tareen committed suicide at his home in Lahore’s Gulberg area. An alumnus of Yale University, Alamgir, 63, established himself as a leading businessman in South Punjab (Pakistan) and operated one of the country’s largest water purification plants.
Local media reports indicate that the cause of his suicide is unknown. Haider Azhar, Multan Sultan’s CEO, confirmed the news and expressed deep condolences to Tareen’s family.
“We are deeply saddened by Alamgir Tareen’s sudden and untimely death. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this incredibly difficult time,” Azhar said.
Alamgir Tareen PSL franchise, Lahore Qalandars, also expressed grief and sorrow over the shocking news.
“We stand with Alamgir Tareen’s family and Multan Sultans during this difficult time,” the franchise said.
Alamgir, according to Multan Sultans’ official website, was “a sports enthusiast who wished to establish a solid platform for aspiring sportsmen and women to develop their skills”.
Multan Sultan won the PSL title for the first time in 2021 after beating Peshawar Zalmi.
