Agnipath Is For Skill, Not Job: Defending the recruitment scheme, Renu Devi said people start looking for jobs at 23-24, “whereas we are even taking in those aged 17-and-a-half years”
Agnipath Is For Skill, Not Job: Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Renu Devi said on Friday that the Agneepath Defense Recruitment Scheme, which is being opposed in many states, is not a job. Hours after his house in West Champaran district’s Bettiah was attacked by protesting youths, the BJP leader told to media, “I don’t see the Agneepath scheme as an employment thing, but as a skill with the armed forces.” development.” She was in Patna at that time; No one was injured in the attack.
“These kids don’t understand,” she said, “they should know that people start looking for jobs at the age of 23-24, while we are taking in at the age of 17-and-a-half.”
Agnipath Is For Skill, Not Job: Apart from Renu Devi’s property in Bettiah, state BJP president and local MP Sanjay Jaiswal’s house was also attacked, although he was not there and no one was injured. BJP MLA Vijay Bihari also faced attack in the town; His vehicle was badly damaged. Renu Devi said, “Aspirants should know that violence during protests is unacceptable. It is not only about damaging private property, they are also damaging public property.”
Calling upon Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s party Janata Dal (United), an ally of the BJP, to “reconsider” the plan, Renu Devi said, “People may have different opinions. We have already said that.” That, after four years, 75 per cent of the people who are released from service under the scheme will get a certificate. They will have certificates saying they are trained ‘agnivars’. There is no dearth of jobs for trained people, India is a big one.”
Agnipath Is For Skill, Not Job: It also claimed that ‘Agnivar’ would get a “Graduation Certificate”; however, the government has so far only announced that these recruits will have a lighter course for a three-year bachelor’s degree after the four-year contract expires.
Regarding the candidates saying that there is no pension of gratuity in the job, he said, “Only as many jobs can be provided as are required by the country. Not everyone can get a job from the government. Together.” Yes, this is skill training, so what is the rationale for demanding pension and gratuity? Which country pays these benefits for a training period of four years?”
He underlined that these recruits would be paid “a salary ranging from Rs 21,000 to Rs 32,000” in addition to “over Rs 11 lakh”.
Bihar was the first to witness massive protests after the scheme was announced on June 14.
Agnipath Is For Skill, Not Job: On Friday. One person was killed and at least 15 injured in Telangana’s Secunderabad as violent protests spread to the southern state after entering Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana for the third day in a row. There are also reports of protests in West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh.
The protesters refused to bow down even after the government made some changes and added benefits to the scheme.
In the old system, people in the age group of 16.5 to 21 were hired for 15 years and were entitled to pension. As per the new scheme, only 25 per cent of ‘Agnivar’ will be retained for a regular commission of 15 years after four years. This year the scheme is to recruit 46,000 people.
Protesters are also unhappy with the age restriction of 17.5 to 21, which made many of them ineligible. The government has since reduced the upper age limit to 23 for this year as army recruitment rallies have not been conducted for the last two years citing the coronavirus pandemic.
