In a disturbing video from Uttar Pradesh’s Kannauj, a young girl pleaded for help, but a group of men stood around her filming her on mobile phones as she pleaded for help. On Sunday, the 13-year-old was found near a government guest house with multiple injuries, including one on the head.
The 25-second video shows the teen holding out her blood-stained arms, appearing to call for help, while the men film her from different angles.
There is a voice asking whether the police have been notified. Another asks for the police chief’s number. But the filming continues without any attempt to assist the girl.
Until the police arrived, the girl had to wait.
Another viral video showed a policeman rushing to an autorickshaw with the injured girl in his arms.
Police found the minor girl injured and rushed her to the hospital for treatment, said Superintendent of Police Kunwar Anupam Singh.
PTI quoted the top officer as saying she went out on Sunday to buy a piggy bank but did not return home. The guard at the guest house first noticed her writhing in pain, and called the police.
She was accompanied by a young man who was captured on security camera footage at the guest house, Mr Singh said, adding that his identity is being determined.
Medical reports have not yet arrived, so the officer could not confirm rape.
Later, the girl was referred to Kanpur for treatment.
Police have registered a case based on a complaint by the girl’s family. No arrests have been made.
