Aaftab Poonawalla, accused of murdering his live-in girlfriend Shraddha Walker, today admitted in a Delhi court that he killed her “in the heat of the moment”. He also alleged that whatever is being said about him now is not entirely true.

Aaftab Poonawalla, 28, said he was cooperating with the police, and also provided a map of the place where he had dumped the body parts. He assured the court that he would provide all the details, but was unable to remember much as it had been too long.

Aftab’s lawyer Avinash said that the police sought extended custody saying that the investigating officer has received a sketch of a pond from Aftab where they want to take him for further investigation. He said, “Aftab told the court that he is cooperating with the police, and the police are also treating him well. He said that he is not misleading them or lying to them. Did not even contest his claim in the court.”

The Saket court extended the police custody of Aaftab Poonawalla by four more days after he was produced in the court through video conferencing in a special hearing. He was produced before the court at the end of his five-day custody today.

Delhi Police sources said that during interrogation, Aftab said that he had thrown a saw and blade to cut Shraddha’s body in the bushes of DLF Phase 3, Gurugram. A team of Delhi Police has checked those bushes twice.

Key Weapon still missing: Police

Sources said that he threw the meat cleaver in a dustbin on the 100 feet road in south Delhi’s Mehrauli.

Last Friday, after the first day of investigation, the Delhi Police collected some evidence from the bushes of Gurugram, which has been sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory for examination.

On the second day last Saturday, the Delhi Police had gone to Gurugram with metal detectors but returned empty-handed.

They also took Aftab to the shop from where he bought saw blades, which is just 250 meters away from Aftab’s house.

On Sunday, the police had recovered more human remains from Mehrauli forest. They have so far sent 13 bones, a skull base and a severed jawbone for forensic examination to match them with the DNA samples of Shraddha’s father.

Next few days crucial: police

The next few days are crucial for the investigation, as vital evidence is still missing in this case.

Police had last week recovered heavy and sharp cutting tools from Aftab’s flat, which they suspect might have been used to cut Shraddha Walker’s body. They also found a heavy black colored polythene bag at Aftab’s Gurugram workplace.

Sources say the six-month-old murder probe is relying on forensic reports, call data and circumstantial evidence as there are no witnesses.

Shraddha and Aftab had moved to Delhi in May and four days later, after an argument over expenses and infidelity, he strangled her to death, later chopping the body into 35 pieces, which he kept in a fridge and used for more than 18 years. dumped in the woods that day, police said.

Aftab’s narco analysis test will not be conducted on Monday, the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) has said, as he will have to undergo a polygraphic test before that.
