Poonawalla’s lawyer said that a court here on Tuesday allowed the Delhi Police to conduct a narco test on Aftab Amin Poonawalla.
Poonawalla’s lawyer Avinash Kumar said the police had filed an application on December 1 and December 5 to take Poonawalla to the Forensic Science Lab, Rohini, which was allowed by the court.

Police had earlier said that the narco analysis would be conducted by a team of experts from FSL at Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital in Rohini.
Narcoanalysis, also known as truth serum, involves the intravenous administration of a drug (such as sodium pentothal, scopolamine, and sodium amytal), causing the subject to enter various stages of anesthesia. .
In the hypnotic phase, the person becomes less inhibited and more likely to reveal information that would not normally be revealed in the conscious state.
Investigating agencies use this test when other evidence does not give a clear picture of the case.
The Delhi Police had earlier said it was seeking permission for Poonawalla’s narco analysis as his response during questioning was “misleading” in nature.
The Supreme Court has ruled that no person can be subjected to narco analysis, brain mapping and polygraph test without his consent.
Further, statements made during this test are not admissible as primary evidence in court, except in certain circumstances where the Bench is of the opinion that the facts and nature of the case permit it.
Poonawalla, 28, is accused of strangling his live-in partner Shraddha Walker and allegedly dismembering her body.
He allegedly kept her body parts in a 300-litre fridge at his home in south Delhi’s Mehrauli for nearly three weeks, before dumping them across the city for several days in the dark of night.
He was arrested on 12 November.
