A murder suspect was shot dead on Wednesday while being escorted by a police team on a Rajasthan Roadways bus for a court hearing in Bharatpur by eight men, officials said. Another murder suspect was injured in the shooting and is in a critical condition in the hospital, the police said.

The bus was stopped by about eight men in a car and two motorcycles near Amoli toll plaza under Halena police station of Bharatpur. Kuldeep Jagheena and Vijaypal were shot after they entered the bus and threw chili powder on the policemen.
A team of seven policemen led by a head constable armed with two semi-automatic rifles (SLRs) were escorting Kuldeep Jagheena and Vijaypal to Bharatpur from Jaipur in connection with the 2022 murder case.
Mridul Kachchawa, SP of Bharatpur, said Kuldeep Jagheena was declared dead by doctors, while Vijaypal is in critical condition. As a result of CCTV footage, the police have identified the culprits and recovered a vehicle.
In nearby districts, including Dausa, police have been alerted and highways are being checked intensively.
According to Additional Commissioner of Police (Administration) – Jaipur Rahul Prakash, several bullets were fired at Kuldeep Jagheena, while the policemen managed to protect Vijaypal. Considering the safety of the bus passengers, the police team did not open fire. An investigation will be conducted and action will be taken if any policeman is found to be negligent.
Vijaypal and Kuldeep Jagheena are alleged to have been involved in Kripal Jagheena’s murder in Bharatpur on September 4 last year.
The main accused in the case was Kuldeep Jagheena. On September 11 last, he and four others were arrested from Maharashtra.
