For the first time, Delhi’s 74th Republic Day parade marches down Kartavya Path, the revamped ceremonial boulevard once known as the Rajpath. This year’s Chief Guest is Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
The parade was flagged off from the Kartavya Path by President Droupadi Murmu, accompanied by Chief Guest Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. The grand parade will showcase the country’s military strength and cultural diversity. Ahead of that, PM Modi paid homage to the National War Memorial with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and the chiefs of the tri-services.
Armoured with hi-tech indigenous equipment, the armed forces show off their prowess. A contingent of 144 soldiers representing the main branches of the Egyptian Armed Forces kicked off the parade with a march.
Security arrangements for the program include the deployment of 6,000 soldiers. Around 150 CCTV cameras will monitor the Kartavya Path, some of them high-resolution.
This year is special because it’s being celebrated during the “Amrit Mahotsav” of the country’s independence. Let’s move forward together to fulfill the dreams of our great freedom fighters. Happy Republic Day, Indians!
Tableaux from 17 states, union territories, and six ministries and departments will depict the emergence of the “New India” through indigenous capabilities, cultural heritage, economic progress, and women’s empowerment.
The “Vande Bharatam” dance competition will feature 479 artists. It’s the second time the dancers have been selected through a nationwide competition.
There’ll be a motorcycle display by the Corps of Signals’ Dare Devils team. The parade will also feature 11 kids who got the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar for bravery, art, culture, sports, innovation, and social service.
A flypast with aircraft from three forces will be the grand finale. Rafale fighters will perform Vertical Charlie at the end. Rafale had been in the parade the last two years, but this is the first time a quarter of the fleet – nine aircraft – has taken part.
There will be a prominent spot in the galleries for people involved in the construction of the Central Vista. The spot will also be available for milk, vegetable, and street vendors.
Republic Day celebrations started with Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s birth anniversary on January 23 and will end with “Beating the Retreat” on January 29. Over the Raisina hills, 3,500 indigenous drones will light up the sky during the country’s biggest drone show.
