An explosion at a seven-storey building in Bangladesh’s capital on Tuesday killed 14 people and injured more than 100.
According to the fire service control room, several firefighting units were rushed to the scene after the blast around 4:50 pm (local time).
It wasn’t immediately clear what caused the explosion.
As per reports, several people are feared trapped in the basement of the building, so the death count might go up.
A bomb disposal unit from the Rapid Action Battalion is headed there.
Police outpost j+spector Bacchu Miah said the injured were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. All of them are getting treated in the hospital’s emergency room.
On the bottom floor are several sanitary products stores, and next door is a branch of BRAC Bank.
Reports said the blast shattered the glass walls of the bank and damaged a bus on the other side.
More than 100 people were injured in an explosion at a five-storey building near a BRTC bus counter in Gulistan on Tuesday afternoon, including at least 15 people, including two women.
As one of the affected buildings developed cracks, eleven firefighting units had to halt their rescue efforts in the evening.
The Rapid Action Battalion’s bomb disposal unit was also headed there.
The explosion happened in Fulbaria’s Alubazar area.
According to DMCH police outpost Inspector Bacchu Miah, twenty of the injured were taken to the hospital’s emergency unit for treatment.
It wasn’t immediately clear what caused the explosion.
