On Thursday, the key accused was arrested after a horrific video of two women being paraded naked in Manipur surfaced online, provoking widespread condemnation and calls for action.

The arrest was announced by Chief Minister N Biren Singh through a tweet this morning, adding that his government would take strict action against all perpetrators, including capital punishment if necessary.
According to the police, Heradas (32), who was spotted wearing a green T-shirt in the viral video, was arrested from Thoubal district.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Supreme Court have condemned the video of the horrifying incident reported to have taken place in May in Kangpokpi district.
In his remarks before the start of the monsoon session of parliament, Prime Minister Modi said, “What has happened to the daughters of Manipur cannot be forgiven. The incident is shameful for the country and the guilty will not be spared.”
The Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, asked the government to take action and inform the court of the steps being taken to ensure the safety of women.
It is time for the government to step up and take action. This is unacceptable,” Chandrachud said in response to the videos distributed yesterday.
Sources said the government is likely to act against Twitter for the distribution of videos, as it could cause law and order problems.
In Manipur, the Meitei and Kuki tribes clashed on May 4 over Meiteis’ demand for Scheduled Tribes (ST) status.
In the ethnic violence, over 120 people have died and thousands have been internally displaced.
In the meantime, the opposition has called on PM Modi to address the situation in Manipur in Parliament. Manipur has already been adjourned by ten opposition MPs.
