Zee News Anchor Detained for airing Doctored video

Zee TV news anchor Rohit Ranjan was today detained by police from his home near Delhi after the channel played a misleading video of Rahul Gandhi for which he apologized.

A dramatic video showed a heated argument and scuffle as Chhattisgarh police tried to arrest the Zee TV news anchor and police in Ghaziabad stepped in to take him away.

Zee TV news anchor Rohit Ranjan tweeted an SOS to the Uttar Pradesh Police when the Chhattisgarh Police landed at his house around 5.30 am, alleging that the local police were not informed.

Chhattisgarh Police replied that there is no need to inform anyone till there is a warrant.

After this, the Ghaziabad police took him with them, stopping his arrest by the team of Chhattisgarh.

He is currently in the custody of the UP Police facing relatively mild charges.

Cases were registered against TV anchors in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh soon after Rohit Ranjan made Rahul Gandhi’s statement on the attack on his office in Kerala’s Wayanad on his show and ran it as a commentary on the killers of Udaipur tailors.

The video was shared by BJP leaders like Rajyavardhan Rathore, who has also been accused in the FIR.

The channel apologized and Zee TV news anchor Mr. Ranjan said on his show, “Yesterday in our show DNA, Rahul Gandhi’s statement was taken in the wrong context by linking the Udaipur incident, it was a human error for which our team apologizes.”

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said Rahul Gandhi was referring to the attack on his Wayanad office when he said, “The children who have done this have acted irresponsibly. They are children, forgive them.”

“But the way the TV channel and anchor played the video, it seems Rahul Gandhi is saying that there were children who killed Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur and they should be forgiven,” Gehlot said.

Referring to the apparently misleading video, Rahul Gandhi tweeted, “The entire nation knows the history of BJP-RSS, and they are pushing the nation into the fire of hatred.

No matter how hard these traitors try to break the country, Congress Will continue to do more to unite India.”
