Man Arrested For Sexually Harassing Woman at Delhi Metro Station: A 40-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a woman at the Delhi Metro station. The police gave this information on Wednesday.

The accused, identified as Manav Agarwal, a resident of Kotla Mubarakpur, said he had fled to Nepal after the incident and had recently applied for anticipatory bail, they said.

The incident took place on June 2 on the Yellow Line at Jor Bagh station of the Delhi Metro. The woman took to twitter to narrate her ordeal.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railways) Harendra K Singh said, “The accused fled to Nepal on June 4 after coming to know about the incident through media. He also applied for anticipatory bail during that period.” In a series of tweets, the woman had claimed that on June 2, she was traveling in a Delhi Metro train on the Yellow Line when a stranger approached her and sought her help to find the address.

After helping him, she got off the train and sat on a platform to book a cab. He had claimed that the accused then reached out to him and inquired about his further address.

This time when he tried to help her, the accused flashed her private part, he alleged.

The woman had also alleged that a ‘policeman’ standing on the platform did not help her.

According to the police, information about this incident came through Twitter. The victim, who hails from Gurgaon, was contacted and said that she faced an incident of sexual harassment when she was traveling from HUDA City Center to Jor Bagh metro station on June 2.

While traveling in the metro, a man inquired about the route to Delhi University. A senior police officer said that she got down at Jor Bagh, where the man also got down and followed her on the platform on the pretext of verifying her address.

While she was sitting on the bench on the stage, the man again showed her a file on the pretext of verifying the address. The officer said that when she was trying to view the file, he put his genitals on her face.

Following this, a case was registered at the INA Metro police station, the police said.

Videos of the incident have surfaced on social media.

In a video, the victim is seen sitting on a bench on the platform of Jor Bagh metro station. Meanwhile, a man approaches her, comes close to her and commits the crime, after which she rises from the bench and leaves.

In another video, the accused is seen wearing a cap and face mask.

Police found the presence of the accused person at Vishwavidyalaya, Malviya Nagar, INA, Hauz Khas, Jor Bagh metro stations.

During the investigation, the police analyzed the CCTV footage in and around the entry and exit points at all the metro stations of the Yellow Line. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Metro) Jitendra Mani said that the police traced the accused while entering the Sikanderpur metro station via escalator at gate number one in the morning.

Further analysis found that the accused bought some fruits from near the Sikanderpur metro station. He also entered a salon in the nearby area where he stayed for 20 minutes. The police questioned the barber and analyzed the mode of payment which was done through e-wallet, the police said.

Thereafter, the Consumer Application Form (CAF), call details of the accused were recorded and location and photograph pasted on the CAF form was found to match with that of the accused. Police said the location was also matching with the timing of the CCTV footage.

The accused was identified and his house was raided, which was found locked. Police said residents of the neighborhood said that he had not been seen there since June 4. It was later learned that the accused had left the country on June 4 and went to Kathmandu, Nepal.

Meanwhile, he applied for anticipatory bail in the lower court and the high court but it was rejected after protests by the police.

DCP Mani said that due to continuous efforts, the accused was arrested from near the Saket court.

The young man is unmarried and is currently unemployed. Police said that he was currently residing in Gurgaon, Haryana and earning money from a rented house.

Police also said that the location of the accused was found several times in Delhi University North Campus, Saket and other areas.
