Delhi-Bound SpiceJet Flight: All the passengers were evacuated safely and no casualties were reported, officials said.

Officials said a Delhi-bound SpiceJet plane carrying 185 passengers made an emergency landing in Patna just after take-off as its left engine caught fire after the bird collided. In the video shot on the ground by locals, sparks are seen emanating from the left engine.

Delhi-Bound SpiceJet Flight: All the passengers were evacuated safely and no casualties were reported, officials said.

Sources in aviation regulator DGCA have told NDTV that the pilots suspected that a bird had collided during take-off. However, the aircraft continued to climb out as they did not observe any abnormality.

Delhi-Bound SpiceJet Flight: The cabin crew then noticed a spark emanating from the plane’s left engine and informed the pilots. Thereafter, the pilots shut down the engine as per procedure and requested an emergency landing.

“The cockpit crew of the Patna-Delhi SpiceJet flight collided with the suspected bird on Engine No. 1 after take-off during rotation. As a precaution, the Flight Captain shut down the affected engine and returned to Patna. Post-flight Inspection reveals that three fan blades were damaged with the bird hit,” said a SpiceJet spokesperson.

Director of Patna Airport said that SpiceJet has arranged alternate flight for the passengers. “No passenger has been hurt. Their Delhi travel is being arranged by an alternate flight. What caused the fire is under investigation,” he said.
