Chup: The Revenge of the Artist, written and directed by R Balki, holds a special place in the life of the filmmaker. The film was billed as a tribute to master filmmaker Guru Dutt and his 1959 film, Kaagaz Ke Phool, also marks the debut of megastar Amitabh Bachchan as a composer. “Chup marks the official debut of Amitabh Bachchan as a musician. Amitji watched Chup and played a spontaneous basic melody on his piano as he re-lived the film. It was his way of expressing his feelings for the film, paying tribute. This composition, his gift to the film, will be the ending title track of Chup. I don’t think there can be any artist whose sensibility can beat Bachchan and silent is his touch”, R Balki told PTI, The film’s screenplay is co-written by R Balki, critic-turned-writer Raja Sen and Rishi Virmani. Chup is produced by Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, Anil Naidu, Dr. Jayantilal Gada and Gauri Shinde.

The film is produced by Dr. Jayantilal Gada (Pen Studio), Gauri Shinde, Rakesh Jhunjhunwala and Anil Naidu. Chup is presented by Gada (Pen Studios), with Pen Marudhar managing the distribution across India.

Sahir Ludhianvi, Kaifi Azmi, and Swanand Kirkire wrote the lyrics, and SD Burman, Amit Trivedi, Sneha Khanwalkar and Aman Pant are responsible for the music. The film stars Pranab Kapadia and Anirudh Sharma as co-producers.

To celebrate Dutt’s 97th birth anniversary, a teaser for Chup was released, and it paid tribute to the late director’s classic Kaagaz Ke Phool. After receiving harsh reviews upon release, the 1959 film with Dutt and Waheeda Rehman in the lead roles was eventually revived as a global cinema classic.
